For fourteen years, Rebecca has been a firsthand observer of Canada's commercial seal slaughter, escorting more than 100 scientists, parliamentarians and journalists to witness the killing. Rebecca was one of the principle architects of the 2009 European Union prohibition on seal product trade, which depressed seal fur prices in Canada, sparing over 1,000,000 baby seals from the slaughter in the past four years alone. She is the recipient of a Canadian Empathy Award (2011) and the Jean Taymans award for animal welfare (2004). In 2006 she was named one of nine Eco Heroes by Alternet.
